Crisis Intervention for Children, Teens, and Adults

When a person experiences a mental health crisis, immediate and qualified support can make a significant difference. Connecticut offers various services to assist individuals facing emotional or behavioral emergencies. Mobile crisis teams, comprised of mental health professionals, intervene in situations where an individual’s well-being or the safety of others is at risk. These teams can visit people at home or in community settings, providing crucial support during a difficult time.

For children and teenagers in crisis, the Department of Children and Families (DCF) offers Mobile Crisis Intervention Services. By dialing 2-1-1, parents, school personnel, case managers, or even the child themselves can connect with trained staff who will link them to the appropriate local mobile crisis team. This ensures children receive the support they need in a familiar and comfortable environment.

Similarly, the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) provides similar services for adults experiencing a mental health crisis.  Through crisis hotlines, mobile teams, emergency rooms, and walk-in clinics, adults can access immediate intervention and support. It’s important to remember that empathy and understanding are crucial during a crisis.  The resources available in Connecticut aim to provide a safe and supportive environment for those in need.
